Creating Memorable Moments

Souvlaki Party!

This week we are cooking up a feast of souvlaki featuring some of our best grocery items and fresh produce.

A homemade souva is a quick and healthy dinner at home. Here is some inspiration to get you going!

The Pita Bread

The foundation of all souvlaki is pita bread. We use Mr Pita pita bread because it’s made to a traditional recipe and has the perfect texture and softness to wrap without splitting and tastes fantastic!

To prepare them, you can warm them in the oven, but our favourite way is to brush them with a touch of olive oil and fry them in a pan over low heat. They are even better if you pan-fry lamb or chicken gyros, then warm the pita in the pan juices!

The Hero Ingredient!

Lamb, chicken, halloumi, eggplant or zucchini, and falafels are hero souvlaki ingredients to suit every taste!

Not everyone owns a spit or wants to cook a spit when they’re craving souva! Head to your local souvlaki shop and buy yourself a tub of chicken or lamb Gyros. Pop it in a frypan with a bit of olive oil, a squeeze of lemon juice and some dried oregano.

We have Meadow Free Range Chicken breasts in our fridges if you want an easy option. Slice and pan-fry over low heat to warm it with lemon juice and dried oregano.

Halloumi is a classic vegetarian souvlaki hero. Brush it with olive oil, pan-fry, and scatter over some dried oregano.

Slice zucchini and eggplant into 2 cm thickness. Brush with garlic-infused olive oil and grill over medium heat until just cooked through.

Falafels are a great vegetarian ingredient – or vegan if you lose the tzatziki! We’ve used bite me fine foods falafels. Just heat and eat!

Dips & Sauces

We all know souvlaki needs some dips! It’s just the way it is!

Classically tzatziki is a must, but you can ramp up the flavour with some hummus too!

Fresh Produce

Fresh tomatoes, lettuce and Spanish onion are on our must-have list. Tabouli is a great addition too.

Layer up your favourite ingredients, wrap the pita snuggly around it and wrap half of the outside in foil so it doesn’t fall apart on you!
